Ravenswood Community Services runs on volunteer power, and we would love to have you join us.
Volunteering during Covid-19:
Our programming looks very different during this time, and for the health and safety of our volunteers and neighbors, we are limiting the number of volunteers that can gather each week to the bare minimum.
New volunteers must:
- Fill out the appropriate volunteer waiver on this page
- Sign up for our mailing list at the bottom of this page to receive our weekly volunteer sign up for volunteering at the Tuesday pantry and for our monthly sign up for volunteering at the second Saturday pantry.
- All volunteers at this time must be 18+
Thank you for your care and support during this time.
Please note that the volunteering information below in the Weekly Opportunities, Monthly Opportunities, and Occasional Opportunities is not currently relevant.

Please read through our volunteer options and see what might work for you:
Each Tuesday RCS hosts a Food Pantry & Community Meal Program, serving between 250-300 neighbors. Some come for groceries and some come for dinner, which is served family-style in the All Saints’ parish hall.
Where: All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 4550 N. Hermitage Ave.
When: Every Tuesday from 4:30pm – 7:45pm; 6:15pm – 7:45pm
To help set-up our pantry and assist with distribution, volunteers arrive between 4:30pm and 5pm. Volunteers should feel comfortable with lifting 20lbs and going up and down stairs for this opportunity. The pantry is typically outdoors year round, so come prepared for the weather! This opportunity ends at 7:45pm.
Community Meal Volunteering
At 6:15pm volunteers arrive to help serve our community meal and clean up the dishes and our dining hall at the end of the evening. Our meal is served family style at 6:30pm. This opportunity ends at 7:45pm.
On the second Saturday of each month we host an outdoor, market-style pantry at Ravenswood Elementary School, 4332 N. Paulina St.
Where: Ravenswood Elementary School, 4332 N. Paulina St.
When: Second Saturday of the month from 8:15am – 11:00am.
Weekend Pantry Volunteering
The volunteer time is from 8:15-11:00am, and in that time volunteers unload a truck of groceries from the Greater Chicago Food Depository, set up the pantry, and distribute groceries to more than 200 neighbors. This pantry is outdoors year round, rain or shine, so volunteers are encouraged to come prepared for the weather. Volunteers of all ages are welcome (volunteers who are 16 y/o and under must be accompanied by an adult.)
In addition to our regular weekly and monthly volunteer opportunities, we also have volunteer needs for special annual events.
All Saints’ Café
Twice a year RCS hosts the All Saints’ Café, a restaurant-style meal for our neighbors, complete with waitstaff, menus, flowers, and live music. There are many different volunteer jobs: food prep, washing dishes, serving and bussing tables, putting plates together on the food line, and more. The volunteer time is 4-8pm. For safety, all volunteers must be 10 or older and volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Each April, RCS hosts the Ravenswood Run in partnership with All Saints’ Episcopal Church and RAM Racing. This neighborhood 5k attracts 3,500 runners and there are opportunities for volunteers both in the weeks leading up to the run and on race day. Volunteers post signs, visit businesses along the route, help with race day set-up, tear-down, and much more.
In May, RCS volunteers put on the annual Reality Fair at Ravenswood Elementary School. This life-sized version of The Game of Life® is a fun financial literacy program for the seventh and eighth-graders at Ravenswood School.
In September, during Hunger Action Month, the Greater Chicago Food Depository hosts the Hunger Walk at Soldier Field. This is a 5k walk to raise awareness of hunger issues in the Chicago area and raise money for pantries, including RCS. RCS earns food credit with GCFD for each person who registers to walk with us, so bring your friends and join us for a walk along the lakefront.
All of the opportunities listed above are great for volunteer groups as well. We schedule groups to help serve the community meal every week (max groups size is 13) as well as to assist with the Saturday Mobile Pantry (max group size is 25). If your school club, office, youth group, etc. would like to volunteer, please visit our Sign Up Genius page to schedule a date.

Greater Chicago Food Depository
Groups and individuals may also volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD is a major food bank which supplies local food pantries like RCS) on behalf of Ravenswood Community Services. Volunteer time at GCFD turns into food credit for our account – you must designate “Ravenswood Community Services A00462″ for the credit to apply. We pay just pennies per pound for food from GCFD, so any volunteer labor credit helps us in a big way! For more info, visit the Greater Chicago Food Depository website here.
Contact us or call 773-769-0282 for more information on any of these opportunities.
